TUTICORIN: The Kovilpatti all-woman police in
Tamil Nadu on Saturday arrested the headmaster of a government aided primary school for sexually harassing nine girl students for the last three months.
The incident came to light when a parent of girl lodged a complaint with the Kovilpatti AWPS on Friday.
The headmaster, A Thomas Samuel, 57, was booked under sections 7 (non-penetrative sexual assault by touching the private parts of a child or making the child to do the same to the perpetrator), 8 (punishment for sexual assault), 9(m) (sexual assault on a child below the age of 12 years), 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault), 11(iii) (shows any object to a child in any form or media for pornographic purposes) and 12 (punishment for sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (
POCSO) Act.
The man, hailing from Chinnakollapatti village near Sattur in Virudhunagar district, is the headmaster of a government-aided primary school run by a church in a village in Tuticorin district. Following the complaint lodged by a parent, the police conducted an inquiry and came to know that he had sexually harassed nine children studying in Class V.
He was remanded in judicial custody.
